Welcome to my rant on FEAR.
One of my favourite acronyms is:
False
Events
Appearing
Real
I got this from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” but I am sure I have heard variants of the same thing over time.
I was chatting with a friend the other day, and this came up.
We talked about how people are afraid.
They are afraid of what could happen.
They are afraid of what could not happen.
They are sometimes afraid of their own shadow (I may or may not have been afraid of my own).
Where do we get this fear?
Looking to the animal kingdom, we see that fear is a very real thing, but normally only for self-preservation.
Animals generally don’t worry about what will happen IF.
They won’t worry about who is thinking what about them.
Or IF someone else is thinking about them.
That entire game is exclusive to humans.
I call it “the what if game”
What if this, and what if that.
The sad truth of it is that you will never know if you don’t try something.
And even once you try it, you won’t know what the opposite will have been… what would have been if you had made a different choice.
Our decisions have actions, this is true. But to be afraid of making a decision for fear of the outcome is silly and restrictive.
You won’t get far if you are living in fear.
What are you afraid of?
