Turning 40

I recently read, and was inspired by, some sort of “40 Things” list that someone wrote up, and thought to myself, what could I possibly share?

There is a lot.  Considerably more than 40 things, to be sure, but I though I would spare myself the hassle of writing my novel now, and you the hassle of reading my novel.

In the first 40 years I have learned a lot.  Probably the most important of my lessons is this – the more I think I know, the less I find I know .  That said, I don’t even entirely understand what that means, but suffice it to say… knowing more (about anything) isn’t necessarily helpful.  It can actually be counterproductive.

But despite that, I have learned a few things and I plan to share those with those that care to read them…  and I will share them here, on my blog as I go.  I am going to write one post a day when I have a computer accessible, and I will revisit this approach on my 41st birthday…. look for that post, it will come sooner than you think!

Where I wanted to start is here – the eye of the beholder.  You know the old saying “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”?  What I have learned is that it is not only beauty that exists only in the eye of the beholder, but all things.  You name it – success, happiness, wealth, wellness… the list goes on.  You are a direct result of what you believe.  That’s why looking in the mirror can be so difficult sometimes, because (from my experience) we are a creation of our own selves.  I am, you are, and so are all the folks around you.

If you are up for a bit of fun and interesting, take a good look around you at the people that surround you and you will see this pattern emerge.  If you don’t, look a bit harder – I have made observation one of my larger tasks, and I find it interesting… I hope you find it interesting as well!

Final thought for today – thank you all who have taken the time to wish me a happy birthday, and especially to my family that organized my SECRET 40th birthday celebration last night.  It’s nice to have everyone in the same room every now and again!

Indeed! It is this heightened awareness to observation that enabled to anticipate the surprise party so far in advance. Happy Birthday and wishing you continued happiness, personal growth, and life fulfilment! Much love!
